Sugar & Grains — Brazil
MIG’s oldest trade: vessels of 15,000 to 50,000 metric tonnes of sugar shipped regularly through the year, with soya and corn from Brazilian fields alongside. We finance and manage the chain from field to mill to market.
Overview
Sugar is MIG’s oldest trade. Since our early years we have shipped several vessels of 15,000 to 50,000 metric tonnes of sugar regularly through the year, with rice and other grains alongside. In Brazil the same model extends to soya and corn.
What MIG does
We do not own sugar mills. We manage and finance the chain between the field, the mill and the market: crop financing, harvest and storage, the relationship with the mill, and the offtake. For soya and corn the sequence is the same — field, harvest, storage, offtake — contracted before the crop is planted wherever possible.
