Rice — South-East Asia
Long-term leased rice fields in Thailand and Vietnam, with milling and the bulk export trade that follows. MIG finances the crop, manages the harvest and contracts the offtake before the field is planted.
Overview
Rice is MIG’s deepest position in agriculture. We hold long-term leases on rice fields in Thailand and Vietnam and follow the crop all the way to the buyer: planting, harvest, milling and the bulk export trade.
What MIG does
We finance the farmer against the harvest, so inputs and working capital are in place without selling forward at a discount. At harvest we manage collection, storage and quality. Milling turns paddy into export-grade rice, and the offtake is contracted before the field is planted wherever possible — so the revenue that repays the financing is known before the risk is taken.
